It all begins with an idea.

Followed by a period of accumulation, contemplation, inner conversation. Always having a final destination in mind, the process sometimes makes it difficult to stick to it too firmly.

I paint moved by strong inner impulses, it is and always has been my way of reacting to my environment. Because my work is so personal and intertwined with relatable emotions it resonates with many others, and my intention is always to create pieces that add to the pleasant ambient in which they are hung.

Watercolours

various

I mainly use watercolours in my work. Its free flowing character, ethereal effect and the joy of experimenting, even if a piece ends up just being a sketch for a bigger acrylic painting. Below are some pieces from a series in the making ‘Plant Sprites’, others are various illustrations, speaking of the sources of my inspiration. The overall style could be described as exhibiting a soft and ethereal quality, reminiscent of a romanticized nature scene, with a soft focus and muted tones. The technique is not overly detailed but rather focuses on capturing the essence of the subject through gentle colour blending and evocative texture.

Transcendence

series 2024, 40x50cm, mixed technique

This series of pieces is not typical for me but it represents the freedom of expressing the true essence regardless of my comfort zone. The vivid colours feel like a light at the end of a dark tunel of dealing with loss, grief, betrayal and all sorts of difficulties that are really just a part of life. I have purposely used elements of abstraction and dual exposure resembling images to enhance the difference between the state of being before and after the personal dark ages, finally resulting in strenght and inner peace.

I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore

2024, 100x120cm, acrylic on canvas

I was contemplating the duality of everything in the time when I was working on this piece, that is why I chose the colourful background and colourless wings. The choice of colours is often just as symbolic as the symbolism of the image.

Day and night. Peace and war. It seems impossible to avoid the dual nature of things, as one doesn’t seem to exist without the other. At first I didn’t see the final image being so red, but it coincided with the genocide in Gaza, that has been going on for the last 15 months, so it made sense to build it up with 15 layers of red, with a part of blue reminding us of the sky we all still share. As I was preparing there were some news that especially stuck with me, the reporting of a doctor who treated an orphaned child. This boy said he wanted to go to heaven, where everyone he loves is … Living in a world, where even one child wants to die …

So the inspiration behind this piece is really dark and heavy, but it is not meant to be political, not at all. I want to inspire conversations about empathy, cooperation, humanity none the less, all the values that are being forgotten if not forsaken in this individualistic and capitalistic society we have managed to evolve into.
